Perfect punctuality at the Bronx Academy of Letters
Every student at the Bronx Academy of Letters arrived on time for the first day of school.
Nearly 600 students are enrolled in the Mott Haven school, and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott praised them all for their punctuality.
“We’re proud of you,” said Walcott as he visited with students during first period classes.
Principal Ann Hall said it was important to start the new year on time.
“We believe in precision, and it starts with the little things,” said Hall.
Precise management is more important than ever at the school, which serves grades six through 12.
Hall has to be careful with all of her resources because of budget cuts. She’s cut after-school programs and turned offices into treatment rooms for growing numbers of kids with special needs. There’s even a shortage of basic supplies at the school.
“We have no paper,” said Hall.
But she is working to provide a quality education for her students despite the cutbacks.
“We have a fantastic team. We’re excited about the new year,” said Hall.

That is a dedicated teacher. I am always inspired when a teacher despite facing budget cuts for the school year, steps up to the challenge to make sure the students are still receiving a quality education.
A lot of cut backs happening here in California too. Hopefully this will not be a trend that continues into the distant future!
