My friend Paola in London (the one who was with me in Costa Rica when the universe spoke), who on a good day has a very dark sense of humor, sent me this: “Misery Bear’s Guide to Isolation.”


As many of you know, I am a co-founder and on the board of The Bronx Academy of Letters, a public and middle high school in Mott Haven in the South Bronx, the most underserved congressional district in New York City. The principal and teachers have been downright heroic in making the transition to remote learning. Recently, a teacher sent us this short video featuring Michael Kamber, director of The Bronx Documentary Center, (right around the corner from our school), exposing the subpar conditions and mismanagement of the coronavirus response in the district’s public housing. This is dangerously impacting our students, many of whom live in the Patterson projects across the street from the school.
